Gateway is available to state and integrated secondary schools, and supports senior secondary students (Year 11 to Year 13+) undertaking structured workplace learning across a range of industries and businesses around New Zealand, while continuing to study at school.

Gateway delivery involves arranging structured workplace learning with the following characteristics:
  • a formalised learning arrangement set in the workplace
  • clear understandings about the knowledge and skills to be attained by learners
  • clear understandings about the assessment method used (workplace learning).
There is no cost to learners. Schools must comply with the requirements of Condition
TRA017
[1]

which specifies the learning environment, health and safety requirements, and the information needs of learners and stakeholders.
Gateway funding is agreed through the Investment Plan. Delivery of the Plan is monitored by us.
Any

Access to Gateway funding will be considered in accordance with government policy, (as directed by the Minister’s determination under section 159L of the Education Act 1989), the current Tertiary Education Strategy, and in response to performance.

Great Resource Booklet from Waitakere Gateway: Jacquie Brayshaw(Waitakere Secondary Schools Gateway Broker) has supplied this very useful dossier of Gateway Providers that schools in her cluster can recommend to others.
Jacquie invites otherGateway Coordinators to send their units to her , including the providers' details, for inclusion in the booklet. The booklet will then belong to all and become a good resource for all Co-ordinators. She requests they send the details of those providers that have delivered a robust, reliable assessment process and they are confident to recommend to other schools. She is sure other co-ordinators will have identified industry units that are suitable for a Gateway student and this will save another school a lot of extra work reinventing the wheel.Download the Resource booklet here>>Contact Jacquie>>
